What a week I’m having!

Quite a bit has happened in the last week (10 days, really) that I should have been blogging about, but time escapes me. I can’t be faulted for this. The evening time that I usually dedicate to updating my blog has been overtaken by the NBA playoffs. The NBA Playoffs: Where Couch Potatoes happen… Anyway, I was going to blog about the Salt Lake Marathon, complete with pictures of the huge and gross blood blister Kate got on her big toe. But really, the marathon didn’t go well for either of us this year, so it really is an event to forget.

The same weekend of the marathon we found out that one of Kate’s co-workers was murdered by her estranged boyfriend. She was found in a plastic container in the back seat of her car in Branson, Missouri several days after she disappeared. Kate took it pretty hard. Although I didn’t know her well it is the first time that I’ve known someone who has been murdered. The woman, Deb Jones, had been in my house for a baby shower when Kate was pregnant with Samantha. If you haven’t heard about it, the details and a memorial can be found at http://www.finddebbie.com/

But we did have a happy moment in the house today. Bean’s cast was removed this morning. Lauren is very excited to have her leg back and to be able to wear normal clothes again. She wouldn’t walk on it for a few hours, but by tonight she was back to normal. I felt bad for all the kids in the fracture clinic who were getting their casts today. Lauren screamed the whole time the cast saw was on, and we were close enough to the waiting room that I am sure that everyone heard it. The first thing that Bean did when we arrived home was to climb in the tub, where she soaked in a bubble bath for an hour. I was glad she wanted to do this, because her dry, flaky, atrophied leg was rank!

Everyone else is doing well. Tomorrow is Patrick’s 6th birthday. He’s all grown up. Now that the weather is finally acting like Spring Patrick and Samantha spend very little time at home. Their bikes and scooters will be worn out soon. Tomorrow we will attend Whitney’s recorder recital at school, where her class will play a Star Wars song. I am excited. I will try to get video.

T'oh! Please don't ask me to kiss it better!

We were going to keep the cast, but it smelled so bad we had to have a Hazmat team come out and seal it up and take it away...

Casting Call

Bean got her hard cast today. Contrary to what you might think, she did pick her own color of cast.

Chasing Jerry

Last Saturday I made my sports coaching debut. I arrived at Patrick's soccer game to find that the team has no coach, so I was roped into the position. My boys did pretty well in the first half, going up 6-0. The lead quickly disappeared in the second half after we gave up 7 straight goals. I publicly chastized and humiliated my players for playing so poorly and threatened to bench them all. I also screamed at the officials until they threatened to throw me out. My players responded well, by scoring back to back goals to win the game. I'm now 1-0. I have a way to go before catching up to my mentor Jerry Sloan, but it was a good start...
